Some things to consider as you read this book:
- We have contrasting couples here–Ruth and Orphah, Boaz and the kinsman. How do they contrast? Name other stories that use this device of contrasting characters.
- Each chapter makes nice divisions for the plot of the story. Explain.
- Dialogue can be used effectively in stories to reveal character, move the story ahead, reinforce mood, and introduce themes. Where do you see examples of these?
- How does this story still resonate with people today even though it was composed so long ago?
- What themes are seen here about love and religion?
- Is this a feminist story in any way?
- Is this a romance? Why or why not?
- The later genealogy of Jesus mentions both Ruth and Boaz. What does that suggest about the nature of God seen in the Bible?
